Apple certificates and provisioning

I have just started my first foray into Apple territory. And I must say what a strange and confusing world it is. Not any stranger or more confusing than the Microsoft world, just a different ‘strange and confusing’. Like stepping out of a House of Mirrors and into a Tilted House.

So, my first task is to fix an issue with an app that is failing on the users’ iPhones because of a certificate issue.
